Metaphor Be With You

Aren’t we humans funny?  Sometimes we have to have the most obvious things explained to us.  Guess what happens when you lean into the hot tailpipe of a motor bike?  You are right!  You get burned.  Guess what happens when you take things personally and lean into other people’s suff?  You are  right!  You get burned.  Here is the photo of my leg to prove it.Vicki's burned leg

Sigh.  This week’s feature article is about how we can take an everyday occurrence and turn it into a metaphor to enrich our lives.  Personally, if I am going to get burned, I want to get something positive and perhaps even funny out of it.

It Was Such a Rush

Oh, I’m so glad I’ve given up “It was such a rush”.

When I was in my twenties, I used to scurry down the halls when I taught high school English, my arms full of books and notes and papers to put in teacher mailboxes, or papers to be sorted from my mailbox.  I carried my keys in my mouth. Lord knows why, but I was in such a rush.

Carpe Diem or Nobody Lives Forever

Two of my dearest friends have recently been diagnosed with cancer. This fact brings home how important it is for all of us to Seize the Day, to embrace our lives and our loved ones, to not sweat the small stuff, and almost everything is small stuff except loving others and ourselves and our planet.

Accommodating is Lying

A bit of an overstatement, perhaps, but I have found when I do not speak the truth about what I really want, it turns out to be a lie. Knee-jerk accommodating is the opposite of being mindful, and I’m all about being mindful these days.
